Leo and the Lesser Lion, by Sandra Forrester

This book is about a family that was happy until Leo their son drowned and died. Their daughter, Mary Bayliss, drowns too but comes back from the dead. She says, "I don't remember dying." After Leo's drowning, everybody's life changes.

My favorite part was when the family adopts two girls, Gwen (8 yrs old) and Isabel (5 yrs old), and they made everybody happy again.

I really liked the character Mary Bayliss because she was very interested in explorers and then changed her mind, all of a sudden, to become a nun, and then changed her mind back again to want to become an explorer. She helped take care of the two girls and fought to keep them together.

I give this book :) :) :) :) :) (five out of five happy faces!). I recommend this book for people who like helping others.

  1. That's interesting that Mary Bayliss would make such a big decision and then change her mind. She had a choice then about becoming a nun, but she didn't have a choice when it came to drowning. Maybe it took a long time for her to understand how to help herself best (by being an explorer) as well as helping others.

    Excellent review!

  2. Sophie,
Is the book a fantasy then? I'm confused about her coming back from the dead. Did she really drown?

  3. Cheri: It is realistic fiction. Her heart beat stopped and she stopped breathing, but then someone got her out of the water and helped her start breathing again. She would have died if somebody hadn't saved her.

    Thanks for asking!
